Do it yourself light kit for video production. So now I’m gonna start talking about the supplies you need for your do it yourself light kit.

And these are pretty much all coming from like a hardware store and then you might have to look at some other places for a couple of things but pretty much, most of them are from hardware stores.
The first thing is your lights. I’m using just these work clamp lights. I can’t off the top of my head remember how much these are. I’ve been using them since college so they hold up well. They’re a little bit dirty but whatever. So, it’s just a real simple clamp light. It’s got the metal interior to give you a little bit more reflection. And here’s the clamp down here. Next thing I have here is just a bar towel I bought. That ‘s all it is, it’s a bar towel. What I use it for is I don’t wanna be at somebody’s house and you know, clamping on something that might leave a mark or something.
So this is just a little bit of protection. Also, if you’re clamping on something that’s really thin, this provides some extra padding so your clamp actually gets some tension and your lights not gonna fall down in the middle of your shot which has happened to me before and which is why I picked up these bar towels.
Next thing of course, are the bulbs. I like using the fluorescent for video production just because they use less energy, which is great for the environment and all that good stuff. Less energy also means you could be using lower grade extension cords. A lower grade extension cord typically maxes out at 100watts and these lights put out 100watts but only use 27 so I’m gonna be fine with my extension cord. I got two sets of bulbs, daylight temperature.
And here we go with one of the most important things you will need in lighting for video production. C47s is what they call these on the set. They’re just wooden clothes pins. You find yourself using them for everything. Buy a huge bag and keep them with you. Here I have what I call a stinger. It’s just a real short extension cord . Pick up a long one too but pick up a couple of these stinger extension cords as well. And make sure that they can handle the wattage that you will be working with. I don’t have to worry about that cause I’m using these energy efficient bulbs. And that’s it for your do it yourself light kit for your video production.
